2 Years in An Off Highway Van: A Long Term Review

When the Van Grevenhofs started their van life journey, they were looking for the best camper van for families; that's when they found the Doc Holliday by Off Highway Van. Now, 2 years later, the Van Grevenhofs are back to talk to us about where they've been and how the Doc Holliday has given them a new perspective on van life.

Why Off Highway Van?

With all the van upfitters and builders available, why would they choose Off Highway Van? First off, Off Highway Van was local to Utah just like the Van Grevenhofs. But it was more than that. At Off Highway Van, we're not trying to stuff you into a van box you don't fit into just to make a sale. We took the time to understand their needs and use case and created a van that truly fit their family and lifestyle.

Why the Doc Holliday?

Why The Doc Holliday?

When the Van Grevenhofs first started their van journey, it was to get away from sleeping on the ground in tents. And really, any van can solve that problem. So, why the Doc Holliday? Firstly, simplicity. This model makes taking your family of 5-7 into nature a breeze. With sleeping areas for 4-5, a lofted queen bed, and the 3-person belted, convertible Wilderness Seat, there's room for the entire family. Once they found out that the Doc Holliday also came with a full kitchenette and an 85L integrated refrigerator, it was a no-brainer.

What Features You're Happy You Upgraded?

Stereo + Sound System

When you purchase an Off Highway Van, you have access to hundreds of upgrades, customizations, and a la carte add-ons to make your van yours.

Premium JL Audio Sound System

With every van build, we let you customize and upgrade everything from your interior palette to your exterior accessories. For the Van Grevenhofs, the most valuable upgrade they made, was the stereo sound system. As audiophiles and general music lovers, we also highly recommended this upgrade.

Suspension Package

As Utah locals, the Van Grevenhofs know how rough the roads can get in the mountains as well as down in Southern Utah.

Upgraded Camper Van Suspension

They chose to upgrade their suspension to improve the ride quality and offroad handling of their new Off Highway Van. We also highly recommend this upgrade as it is one of the most impactful quality of life/driving updates you can add to your custom van build.

How Do You Use Your Van Now?

This is a common experience between new van owners. They purchase a new camper van assuming it will be great for camping and to get the family outdoors. What they don't expect is how much day-to-day use they get out of their van even when they're not adventuring. The Van Grevenhofs quickly discovered how much they liked taking the van skiing and using it as a hang out spot rather than cramming into a cramped, overcrowded lodge. They also love using the van for concerts to load all their friends in to catch a show.

"Trailgating"

We all know what tailgating is, but have you ever heard of trailgating? This is when you take your van much like you would to a sports game, but you post up at a trailhead or mountain bike park.

"It may sound kind of cheesy, but it's definitely enhanced our life."
